Timothy Lewis Davis, 48, of Granite Falls, North Carolina, was found dead at his residence on January 14, 2022, after suffering both gunshot and stab wounds. Deputies had responded that night to an unknown trouble call at Terrapin Ridge Lane and encountered a 56-year-old man, Troy Lee Carter, armed with a gun and a knife and holding two women hostage. Carter refused deputies’ verbal commands and was fatally shot by an officer at the scene.
Investigators concluded Carter had attacked Davis before deputies arrived. Carter was wanted at the time on multiple charges related to earlier incidents at the same property, including two counts of domestic criminal trespassing, injury to real property and second-degree arson. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assumed the case; deputies’ body-worn camera footage was turned over and the involved officers were placed on paid administrative leave while the District Attorney reviews the matter.
Are there details about Davis, the location, or the timeline that anyone in the area can add to help clarify what happened?
