Willie Carl Clements, 58, of Garysburg, North Carolina, was found dead inside a home on Nations Road just outside Roanoke Rapids on January 5, 2022. Responding firefighters discovered Clements during a house fire; he had an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators reported a pot left on the stove that produced heavy smoke and said early indications were that it had been placed there to conceal the death.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office obtained a murder warrant for 29-year-old Chaundler Robert Lashley, also known as Chaundler Burch. Lashley was described as armed and dangerous and believed to have fled the area; the motive for the shooting remained under investigation. The Rheasville Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the response.

Clements was remembered by family and friends as lively, fond of fashion, and known as Carl or Jack Flash. If anyone has information about the shooting or Lashley’s whereabouts, please share what is known with Halifax County investigators.
