Darrell Mims Jr., 25, was shot and killed on November 26, 2021, in New Bern, North Carolina. Emergency personnel responded about 2:39 p.m. to the 1000 block of Pavie Avenue after reports of gunfire and found Mims lying on the ground, severely bleeding and unresponsive. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead; the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Investigators say Mims had been visiting a residence where numerous people were gathered when an unknown assailant or assailants fired several shots, fatally wounding him. The New Bern Police Department is investigating, and no arrests or public suspect identifications have been announced. Craven County Crime Stoppers is assisting by seeking tips from the community.
