Douglas Delquan, 32, was fatally shot inside a residence on Annotto Bay Lane in Garner, North Carolina, on October 31, 2021. He lived in that home with his 59-year-old ex-girlfriend, Peggy Sylvania Yarborough; the couple had recently broken up but continued to share the same living space. Police were called to the house twice that evening for domestic disturbances. After an initial response around 8:30 p.m., officers spoke to both and they agreed to separate for the night.

Less than an hour later Yarborough called 911 and reported she had shot Delquan, saying he had threatened her with a gun. Officers who arrived found Delquan dead from a gunshot wound and Yarborough was arrested and charged with murder. Earlier in 2021 Delquan had been charged with assaulting Yarborough during a domestic incident.
