Dashaunti Lavarious Waters, a 28-year-old African American man, was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds after a vehicle crashed into a home in Goldsboro, North Carolina, in the early hours of September 30, 2021. Police had responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 300-block of S. Leslie Street and discovered the crashed vehicle on E. Walnut Street; Waters was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 34-year-old man, Donovan Wooten, was arrested on October 22, 2021, in the 1600 block of E. Elm Street and charged with Waters’ murder. Wooten was held without bond and had a first court appearance scheduled for October 25, 2021. The Goldsboro Police Department asked anyone with information to come forward during the investigation.
