Ricardo Mendez, 43, was shot and killed on August 13, 2021, near the 300 block of Richardson Street in Monroe, North Carolina. Police responding to a shots-fired call found Mendez face down in a front yard; he had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say Mendez and 21-year-old Antonio Palacios were involved in an altercation that escalated into gunfire. Palacios was seen running from the scene, was later taken into custody, and admitted to shooting Mendez. A handgun was recovered behind a nearby residence and Palacios was charged with first-degree murder.

Anyone with information about the shooting or who saw events near Richardson Street on August 13, 2021, is asked to come forward.
