Eddie Hall, 50, of New Bern, North Carolina, was shot and killed on May 27, 2021, at the corner of Main Street and Pavie Avenue in the Duffyfield area. The shooting happened in the early morning; police found Hall already deceased when they arrived.

Local authorities arrested 43-year-old Derrick Dalshau Bryant of New Bern in connection with the incident. Bryant was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony obstruction of justice and was held in the Craven County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond. Investigators said the probe was continuing and additional charges were possible.

Neighbors and acquaintances described Hall as a beloved family member and active member of the community, noting his involvement in Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
