Cedric Marcque Gillard, 35, of Plymouth, North Carolina, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside Carol’s Variety Store No. 2 at 702 E. Main St. on April 28, 2021. Law enforcement responded about 1 p.m. to a report of a person shot; Gillard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified Brandon Jamal Carter, 44, of Roper, as a suspect and obtained a warrant charging him with murder. At the time Carter was described as at large and considered armed and dangerous. The Plymouth Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation handled the case; Chief Investigator Ryan Soria was the contact for tips. Washington County High School was placed on lockdown briefly after the shooting.

Gillard is survived by his children Keonza Brooks, Massiah Gillard and Ke Z yia Brooks, his parents, siblings and other relatives. Does anyone have information about the shooting or Carter’s whereabouts?
