Michael Cobb, 62, of Macclesfield, North Carolina, was found shot to death at a residence on Otter Creek Church Road on April 1, 2021. Deputies from the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office arrived after a call about 5:30 a.m. and discovered Cobb had been shot and killed.

Investigators say the killing grew out of an argument over money. Authorities identified Melvin Cotton Jr. as the person responsible and charged him with first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a felon. At the time the charges were announced, Cotton was considered armed and dangerous and his whereabouts were unknown; deputies asked the public to provide any information.

Does anyone in the area have information about Cobb, the dispute, or Cotton’s whereabouts that could help the investigation?
