Robert Lucas Luke Gibby was 22 and a student at Appalachian State University when he was shot to death on February 18, 2021. A graduate of Bessemer City High School and a member of First Assembly of God in Gastonia, he was remembered for a larger-than-life personality and making people laugh.

Gibby and 19-year-old Adam Kale Woods of Kings Mountain were found shot along Lowery Wood Road north of Kings Mountain. A third victim, 21-year-old Todd Payton Lee Waggoner, survived with non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Investigators identified three suspects; two adults, Michael Shane Barnes, 19, and Kaleb Isiah Carver, 21, were charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, and a juvenile was charged with the same offenses.

Multiple agencies assisted the Gaston County Police in the ongoing investigation. If anyone knew Luke, his movements that night, or has information that could help, please come forward.
