Cedrick Harshaw, an 18-year-old senior at Hibriten High School from Granite Falls, North Carolina, was killed after being shot during a confrontation at the Market Basket convenience store in Caldwell County. Cedrick, who wanted to enlist in the military and enjoyed boxing, music and rapping, was at the store on January 5, 2021; he was taken to a local hospital and later died.
Events began the day before when an employee at Bolick’s Tire reported being threatened with a gun by a man asking customers for money and rides. On January 5, a person matching that description entered the Market Basket and a physical altercation followed between that person and employees from the tire store who were inside. After being asked to leave, the suspect reportedly retrieved a handgun and fired multiple shots into the store. One tire store employee returned fire, striking Cedrick; a second employee also fired and the tire store employee who had been hit was treated at the hospital.
Cedrick’s mother, Dawn Davenport, and his brother, Zonquarius Pierce, were at the store and described an encounter with three strangers that led to the altercation. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office were investigating the shooting. Does anyone who was in the area that day or who knew Cedrick have information that could help clarify what happened?
