Montez Jerrel Garner, 34, was shot and killed on December 7, 2020, at 2400 Beechnut Drive in Kinston, North Carolina. Lenoir County Sheriff’s deputies found him deceased from a gunshot wound at the scene. Clayton Fernando Clark Jr. was present and arrested that day in connection with the incident.
Clark later entered a plea to voluntary manslaughter. On October 7, 2022, Resident Superior Court Judge Imelda Pate sentenced him to 51 to 64 months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Montez Garner is survived by his parents, Tywanda Garner and Demetrius Maurice Cobb, and four children, Jackyle Stancil, Shymere Garner, Endia Brown, and Julian Garner.
Does anyone have memories of Montez or information about the events that led to that night in Kinston?
