On October 13, 2020, 38-year-old Willard Dement Jr. was killed in a shooting at the intersection of David and Main streets in Henderson, North Carolina. Deputies from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office found Dement deceased at the scene around 8 p.m.; two other victims were injured — 42-year-old Misty Boyd, who was airlifted to Duke Medical Center, and a juvenile girl who was treated and released from Maria Parham Hospital.
24-year-old Dequante Jabree Terry was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and attempted armed robbery. Terry was held without bond on the murder charge and given a $750,000 bond on the other counts. His next court date was set for October 20, 2020, while the Vance County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation continued interviews and evidence gathering.
The shooting happened two days after a separate, unrelated Henderson incident that also resulted in one death and two injuries. Does anyone have information about the events on David and Main streets that night or the neighborhood contacts investigators were interviewing?
