On the evening of October 3, 2020, at about 5:45 PM, Goldsboro officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 1100 block of Olivia Lane and found 57-year-old Kenneth Ookie Raiford with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Wayne UNC Healthcare and died of his injuries the next day. Raiford was born April 21, 1963, in Wayne County, North Carolina, learned brick masonry through Job Corps, worked at Borden manufacturers until his health declined, and later did odd jobs around town.

He is survived by three daughters, four brothers, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. On December 4, 2020, 29-year-old Linwood I. Grantham of La Grange was arrested and charged with murder in the case.
