Mark Anthony Lowery, 41, of Pembroke, North Carolina, died on August 12, 2020, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center after an argument over a dog escalated into a violent confrontation on Highway 710 North in the Pembroke area of Robeson County. Born October 16, 1978, he was the son of the late Joseph Anthony Lowery and Rita Sampson.
According to reports, Lowery suffered severe injuries during the altercation and was driven in a privately owned vehicle to the Pembroke Police Department, where he died before reaching the station. Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins called it yet another senseless murder in the county.
Investigators from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division, the Pembroke Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force worked the case. Later the same day, 26-year-old Christopher John Brayboy of Pembroke was arrested during a traffic stop and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
