Brittney Nicole Leftridge, 31, was found dead from a gunshot wound on July 1, 2020, at a residence on Racquet Club Drive near Cashiers, North Carolina. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Leftridge’s body at the home she shared with 42-year-old Grant Alexander Higgs.

Higgs was arrested and later indicted on first-degree murder charges in connection with Leftridge’s death. At the time of his arrest he was living in Nashville, Tennessee; authorities say he had previously lived in St. Louis, Missouri, and Cashiers, North Carolina. He was taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $5 million bond.
