Courtney Terrell Dixon, a 38-year-old African American man, was shot multiple times and killed on May 22, 2020, on Old Cherry Point Road in New Bern, North Carolina. Investigators connected the shooting to a dispute over control of an area for drug sales.
Authorities identified Timothy Harris as the primary suspect after a high-speed chase through Craven County in which his vehicle struck a marked patrol car. Harris was taken into custody; his wife, Barbara Harris, attempted to interfere with the arrest by trying to strike patrol vehicles and was also detained. Charges announced included murder, fleeing to elude arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and related counts; both were held pending legal proceedings.
Courtney Dixon’s family made victim impact statements during court proceedings, describing the loss to their family and community. Does anyone have information about Dixon’s life in New Bern or the area where this happened that could help clarify events leading up to May 22, 2020?
