Corey Lee Gentry, 31, was fatally shot on March 6, 2020, on Pinners Cove Road in South Asheville. Gunfire was reported at 9:19 p.m.; the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded and the North Carolina medical examiner ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators tied the shooting to a dispute over a drug transaction with Abdul-Umar Rasheed Taylor, 20, of Asheville. A juvenile was initially arrested; later evidence led to charges against Taylor for first-degree murder. The prosecution faced early COVID-19 pandemic constraints that affected complex jury trials, and the victim’s family participated in court as the case moved forward.
Does anyone have information about Gentry’s movements that night or witnessed the incident on Pinners Cove Road?
