Derrick Malloy, a 34-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on January 20, 2020, on North King Avenue in Dunn, North Carolina, just feet from his home and next to his grandfather’s church. According to his sister Nikita, he was returning from his mother’s house carrying a plate of food when he was struck twice, in the back and in the shoulder, and died en route to the hospital.

Police say two shootings that day appear related and that neither seemed random. The investigation has included search warrants, but progress has been limited by a lack of witnesses willing to come forward. No arrests have been made and the family continues to press for answers.

If anyone saw activity on North King Avenue near the church on January 20, 2020, or has information about these shootings, please contact the Dunn police.
