Dariel Danate Reid was 15 when he was shot in the early hours of January 13, 2020, in the 400 block of West Grice Street in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was taken first to Sentara Albemarle Hospital and later transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator and removed from life support on January 15, 2020.

Police began an investigation at about 8:27 a.m. on January 13; officers were observed entering a residence wearing gloves and shoe covers as they examined the scene. Dariel attended H.L. Trigg Community School and his mother, Keosha Burke, said he was a registered organ donor.

No arrests, suspects, or motive have been released and the investigation remains active. If anyone has information about what happened that night, please share it with Elizabeth City police.
