Malan Adhim Morshed, 28, was killed on August 12, 2019, at a business operating as Dollar City in Raeford, North Carolina. Morshed, described as of Middle Eastern descent, managed a sweepstakes parlor run out of the discount store. He was found with a gunshot wound and died after being taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Sheriff Hubert Peterkin’s Hoke County Sheriff’s Office said a group of four to five men stormed the establishment while patrons were inside. Investigators found multiple gaming machines in the back of the business, a detail the sheriff cited when noting sweepstakes parlors can attract criminal activity. Detectives said several suspects conspired in the crime and were continuing to seek additional persons involved.
Friends and family held a candlelight vigil outside Dollar City and organized funeral arrangements while the investigation proceeded. Did anyone who knew Morshed or frequented that business see anything on August 12, 2019, that could help the investigation?
