James Anthony Lee Jr., a 21-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on July 23, 2019, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He was working as a Domino’s pizza delivery driver when he was shot three times and found in the driver’s seat of his car in the Branch Avenue area.

James also worked for the Virginia Department of Corrections and Walmart and was described as hardworking and devoted to providing for his family. Authorities said the shooting appeared to be a robbery over a few dollars and a pizza. Two men were arrested: 26-year-old Nashown Laquan Alston of Roanoke Rapids and 18-year-old Courtez Malik Powell, both charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon; Alston was held without bond and first appeared in court on July 31, 2019.

Anyone with information about James, his last delivery, or the Branch Avenue area at the time is asked to come forward.
