Eric Delontae Brooks, 35, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds at his home at 104 Bright Street, Goldsboro, North Carolina, on June 23, 2019. He was pronounced dead at the scene early that morning around 5:50 a.m. Another man, 37-year-old Rodney Calvin Randall, was also shot and taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, later airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville in critical condition.

The Goldsboro Police Department described the shooting as a targeted attack rather than random violence. A 33-year-old man, Manyele Lofton, was arrested on June 24, 2019, at the Irish Inn Motel on charges of murder and attempted murder and held without bond. Police were also seeking David Dekarlo Sampson as wanted for accessory after the fact to murder and asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
