April Oxendine, 45, of Shannon, North Carolina, was killed on May 27, 2019. She was found shot in the backseat of a pickup truck on N.C. Highway 71 North in Lumber Bridge after a 911 call from a convenience store; the shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. Two other occupants in the truck were not injured.
Investigators say Ronchelle Raquan Lewis, 18, of Fayetteville, fired into the truck on Russell Road in Shannon, striking Oxendine. Lewis was arrested the next morning and charged with first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; he was also wanted in Cumberland County on several felony charges. Reported motive centers on a dispute between Lewis and the truck s driver, Winston Oxendine, who is not related to the victim.
April Oxendine had lived for about five months with David Locklear at Arrowhead Heights Apartments in Shannon and was described as a housekeeper and friend who meant a great deal to people in the community. Anyone with information about the homicide or Lewis s whereabouts is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff s Office.
Highway 71 or Russell Road that afternoon?
