Cal Culver Bills, 29, of Granite Falls, North Carolina, died from a single gunshot wound on the evening of January 16, 2019. Responding Granite Falls police and emergency crews found him at a Falls Avenue address and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who was present placed the 911 call and told officers that the shooting was accidental.

The Granite Falls Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation opened an inquiry. Initial reports described the shooting as accidental, and investigators said they were working to rule out foul play. No arrests or suspects have been identified in connection with his death. Cal was the son of Randy Bills and Sandy Wuensch and is survived by his sister Logan Bills of Hampstead, his fiancée Ricki Ryder of Granite Falls, and his son Connor Bills of Granite Falls. A memorial service was held January 19, 2019.
