Shyane Marcia Locklear was 19 and nine months pregnant when she was shot and killed on December 7, 2018, at a residence on Lennon Drive in the Laurel Hill community of Scotland County, North Carolina. Her unborn son, Tyreon McRae Turner, who was expected to be born that day, also died. The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call around 10:20 PM and pronounced both Shyane and the baby dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old man from Laurel Hill, Tygira McRae Turner, was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder in connection with Shyane’s death. Authorities say he also fired shots at Shyane’s parents and their two-year-old grandson while they waited in a vehicle outside the home; those family members were not injured. The case has been described by local officials as a tragic example of domestic violence and the community mourned the losses.
