Keith Presnell, a 27-year-old from Summerfield, Ohio, was shot to death on November 30, 2018, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Kathryn B. McCloud of Goldsboro, were found dead inside a house owned by McCloud’s grandmother just before 6 a.m. after the grandmother called Wayne County 911 to report the shooting.
Steven M. Mackie, 49, McCloud’s uncle who lived in the same house, was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of murder. The 911 call included Mackie’s claim that Presnell and McCloud were trying to kill him; family members at the scene described heavy blood and said Mackie was looking out a window and smoking a cigarette after the shooting. Investigators reported Mackie was believed to be off his medications for bipolar disorder at the time.
Presnell had been in North Carolina looking for work and had visited his family in Noble County, Ohio, with McCloud about a week before the killings; his family described him as active, courteous, hardworking, and not involved in drugs. Does anyone have information about Presnell or McCloud’s movements in Goldsboro around late November 2018?
