Rashiya Melton was 18 and from Cedar Grove, North Carolina. She was shot in the head at a Halloween party in a barn on Mill Creek Road on October 28, 2018. The party drew about 300 people; when shots were fired Rashiya was found behind the barn unconscious but breathing and was airlifted to UNC Hospital. She died the following day.

A second person suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, was treated and released, and no arrests or suspects have been named. Rashiya’s twin sister described her as the funniest person she knew; her death has had a profound impact on family and community.
