Dalvin Detron Redmond, 30, was found dead on October 25, 2018, in a field near Ellis Road in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, not far from his Tarboro residence. A farmer discovered the body; Redmond had been shot twice, once in the abdomen and once in the thigh. Toxicology showed a small amount of alcohol. It is unknown how long his body had been in the field before discovery.
The murder remains unsolved. Law enforcement and organizations including Team Cold Case have sought public tips, rewards have been offered, and no arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced. Nearly a year later Dalvin’s brother Dekotah Redmond was also murdered in Princeville; Melvin Jones Jr. was arrested and charged in Dekotah’s death, but there has been no indication the two cases are connected.
Dalvin was born August 3, 1988, in Pitt County to David Pettaway and the late Sophia Redmond; he is survived by his father, maternal grandparents Irene and Theodore Redmond, and his brother Dakota Redmond. If anyone saw Dalvin in the days before October 25, 2018, please share what you know.
