Nikidrien Bailey, a 22-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on October 17, 2018, outside The Pines at Carolina Place Apartments in Pineville, North Carolina. The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. on Pine Acres Avenue off Lancaster Highway. Police say Bailey and a 15-year-old acquaintance got into an altercation that led to a struggle over a weapon; Bailey was shot in the chest and the teen was shot twice in the leg. The 15-year-old later showed up at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds and was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.
Both Bailey and the teen reportedly had no prior police encounters. Family members described Bailey as a loving person who had never been in trouble, and a small memorial was placed at the scene. An 18-year-old, Isaac Kersey, was also arrested in connection with the killing and was released on electronic monitoring; police received authority to conduct warrantless searches of Kersey at any time.
Does anyone have information about what led to the argument that night or saw activity near The Pines at Carolina Place Apartments around 7:30 p.m. on October 17, 2018?
