Kyle Storm Lee was 16 years old when he died on July 27, 2018, in Marion, North Carolina. He was visiting the home of Roger and Kimberly Cable and was handling a .44-caliber revolver that belonged to the Cables when the firearm discharged and Kyle was fatally shot in the head in the early morning hours.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office reported numerous firearms in the Cable home, many loaded and unsecured, and investigators said juveniles had easy access to the guns. Roger and Kimberly Cable were charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to store a firearm to protect a minor. At trial in April 2022 a witness, Ariel Hoyle, testified she was facetiming with the Cables’ son and said the boys had been handling the weapon and mentioned playing Russian Roulette just before the fatal shot.

Prosecutors said the Cables’ failure to secure firearms directly contributed to Kyle’s death; the defense said the gun was not loaded when the boys first retrieved it and called the shooting a tragic accident. Does anyone have information about how the revolver came to be accessible that night or recall events at the Cable home around July 27, 2018?
