Three people were found dead from gunshot wounds on June 8, 2018, in Burke County, North Carolina. Trae Montana Ward, 23, was found dead inside a home on Enola Road along with his mother, Pamela Renee Ward, 57. A 22-year-old woman, Brianna Stamey, was found dead in a car outside the residence. A 1-year-old child inside the house was discovered unharmed and taken for medical evaluation.

Kenneth Douglas Powell, 61, who had dated Pamela Renee Ward, was named as a person of interest. About a week after the killings his decomposed body was found roughly a mile from his apartment and a gun was located nearby; ballistics testing on that weapon was pending at the time.
