Quavist Diwaun Phillips, a 20-year-old African American man, was shot and killed in Salisbury, North Carolina, on May 1, 2018. Officers responding to multiple 911 calls found Phillips lying in the middle of the 300 block of Ackert Avenue near Tillman Street around 11 a.m.; he was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Police arrested 23-year-old Doreen Tamara Richardson in connection with the killing; she was charged with first-degree murder and held at the Rowan County Detention Center without bond after being brought to law enforcement by her family. Officials have not released a motive or detailed circumstances that led to the shooting. Family members said Phillips had been traveling between South Carolina and Salisbury and described him as someone trying to improve his life.
Does anyone in Salisbury remember seeing activity on Ackert Avenue that morning or have information that could help clarify what happened?
