Cleo Majette Jr., 26, of Seven Springs, North Carolina, was found dead inside a vehicle on the 1600 block of Reed Street in Kinston on April 22, 2018. Officers responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle discovered he had suffered fatal gunshot wounds; the Kinston Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

On May 18, 2018, Jamari Davis, 25, of Kinston, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Majette Jr.’s death. Davis was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon; he was taken into custody by the Kinston Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force at 912 East Bright Street. The investigation remains active.
