Isaiah Hill was 6 years old and a first-grader at Snow Hill Primary School when he was shot and killed on April 10, 2018, in Snow Hill, North Carolina. The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. on Davis Grove Church Road in the backyard of the family home. Isaiah was taken to Vidant Medical Center and died during surgery.

Isaiah’s 68-year-old grandfather, Johnny Boy Jefferson, was found dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. The shooter was Isaiah’s cousin, 20-year-old Myles Jefferson Duggins, who lived at the home. The shooting followed an argument over a car. Duggins fled in a stolen vehicle but was located and taken into custody by Raleigh police a few hours later. He was arrested and charged with two open counts of murder and theft of a motor vehicle; authorities say he confessed during questioning.

The Greene County Schools system mobilized student services staff to support Snow Hill Primary School after Isaiah’s death, and the family urged families to talk about mental illness. If anyone knew Isaiah or has information about the events that night, please share what you know.
