Ten-year-old Nijiher Travese Jalynn Bingham was killed on March 1, 2018, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. A fourth-grade student at Covington Street Elementary School, he lived with his grandmother Lorraine Bingham and cousin Nathishaia Bingham and was described as enjoying school and playing with friends. On the evening of March 1 police were called to a Second Street home for an unresponsive juvenile; emergency medical workers pronounced Nijiher dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the neck. The final autopsy confirmed the gunshot wound as the cause of death.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 13-year-old relative, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter on April 25, 2018; the suspect’s name was not released because of his age. Laurinburg Police Chief Darwin Williams said the investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Scotland County District Attorney’s Office. The family expressed relief that an arrest had been made and awaited trial.
Does anyone have reliable information about Nijiher’s life in Laurinburg or the events on Second Street that night?
