Wallace Levon Pokey Sturdivant, 60, was shot and killed on June 6, 2017, on Salisbury Street (U.S. Highway 74) in front of Wadesboro Discount Grocery in Wadesboro, North Carolina. He was found lying in a vacant lot across the street from the store with apparent gunshot wounds and died after efforts to save him.
A second man, Charles Edward Rivers, 52, was also shot in the incident and taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main Hospital in Charlotte for surgery; he survived. The Wadesboro Police Department, the Anson County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation. Governor Roy Cooper announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Despite extensive efforts, no suspects have been identified and the case remains unsolved. Anyone with information that could help bring justice for Sturdivant is asked to come forward.
