Akir Samad Hooper, 34, was shot and killed at his Arlington Street home in Forest City, North Carolina, on May 19, 2017, around 11:15 p.m. Stephanie Lynn Walker, 37, who was at the residence, was also shot and later died at Rutherford Regional Hospital. Two juveniles living in the home escaped unharmed.
Forest City police described the shooting as premeditated. Witnesses reported a biracial male of medium build who was known to the victims, wearing camouflage bandannas and dark clothing and carrying a black semiautomatic weapon. Investigators say the motive appeared to be personal. In March 2022, Jose Angelo Gonzalez, 51, of Sunrise, Florida, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in the case and held without bond pending extradition to North Carolina.
Numerous interviews and crime scene analyses were conducted during the investigation. Does anyone who knew Akir or Stephanie have additional information that could help piece together what happened that night?
