Omar Leander Langley, a 30-year-old African American man, was found unconscious in his 2014 Hyundai Sonata at the intersection of Vernon and McLewean Streets in Kinston, North Carolina, on April 10, 2017. The vehicle had numerous bullet holes in the driver’s side door and broken windows; first responders pronounced him dead shortly after arrival. Authorities described the shooting as targeted and said Langley was on his way home from work when it happened.
Police identified a black SUV as a vehicle of interest in connection with the incident. Two men from Pitt County, Joshua Hykeem Joseph, 19, and Acor Markivious Jones, 21, were arrested and charged in connection with Langley’s murder and were tied to other shootings in the area; a third suspect, Gregory Alexander Cogdell Jr., 24, had a warrant issued for his arrest. Langley’s family characterized him as friendly and non-violent and have urged for peace and unity in the wake of his death.
Does anyone have information about Langley, the black SUV, or the events leading up to the shooting?
