Mark Randall Lewis, 54, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was shot in the chest and died on April 2, 2017, near the 5000 block of Cooper Street. He was survived by his wife Sheila Lewis; daughters Sarah Wildhagen and Anna Lewis; his mother Tommie Lewis; his sister Brenda Lewis; and half-siblings Valarie Branch and John Lewis.

Police responded to the scene and found Lewis with a gunshot wound to the chest. Investigators determined the death was not random and identified a suspect who was a family member. That suspect was arrested and charged with murder, and the case proceeded through multiple court hearings.
