Samuel Damon Durham, 42, was one of three people killed at the family home on Robinson Avenue in Ellerbe, North Carolina, on February 12, 2017. The other victims were his sister, 38-year-old Latasha Devora Durham, and their mother, 68-year-old Gloria Jean Durham. Three young children were in the house during the incident but were reported unharmed.

Authorities say the suspect, 40-year-old Steven William Smith of Jackson Springs, was arrested shortly after the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received a shooting call at about 11:54 a.m. Smith was taken into custody by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Carthage Police Department shortly after 12:30 p.m. He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, felony breaking and entering, possessing a fictitious driver’s license, and resisting a public officer, and was being held in Richmond County without bond.

Investigators and family members pointed to a nearly 20-year tumultuous relationship between Smith and Latasha Durham; family members said Latasha had tried to end the relationship several times. Does anyone have information about the family, the timeline that morning, or the neighborhood that could help clarify what happened?
