Uday Manik, a 56-year-old businessman of Conway, North Carolina, was shot and killed on September 29, 2016. Manik owned the Sonoco Convenience Store and the Woodland Supermarket in Aulander. The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of NC 561 and NC 305 while he was behind the wheel of his vehicle after having closed his store and was driving home.

Investigators described the attack as an ambush in which the suspects hid near the intersection and opened fire when Manik’s vehicle stopped. Authorities said he was targeted because he routinely carried cash from his business. Three men were arrested on October 2, 2016, and charged with felony murder; they were taken into custody at separate locations in the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting or who saw activity near NC 561 and NC 305 that night is asked to come forward.
