Tina Marie Meyer, 56, was killed at her Jacksonville, North Carolina, home on Old Maplehurst Road on September 19, 2016. She was found unresponsive on the living room floor with an apparent gunshot wound to her left chest. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered her longtime boyfriend, 53-year-old Terry Barnes, outside in a Ford Explorer and her stepfather, Addison Riley, inside the house.
Investigators determined the three had been drinking that night after leaving the Globe and Anchor Bar. According to the inquiry, Barnes went into Riley’s bedroom, grabbed a .410 shotgun, returned to the living room, pointed the weapon at Meyer and shot her while Riley sat on the couch and Meyer stood in front of him. Barnes initially told deputies Riley was the shooter; Riley said Barnes had fired. Barnes later admitted he shot Meyer, saying he had been drinking and thought the gun was unloaded when he pointed it to prove a point.
Barnes was charged with murder and held without bond. The first-degree murder trial ended in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked. On May 21, 2019, Barnes entered an Alford plea to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 168 to 214 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Does anyone have information about Tina’s last known movements that night or knew her circle of friends?
