Matthew David Watson, 26, of Monroe, North Carolina, was killed in a shooting on the evening of August 17, 2016, at a residence on Ruben Road just south of Monroe. Watson, a self-taught artist and self-employed handyman who enjoyed drawing and making rap music, was one of two men shot when two visitors arrived at the home to conduct a drug transaction.
An exchange of gunfire followed; Matthew Watson died and Bentley Ivey was wounded and treated and released from Carolinas Medical Center. Deputies later found Chambers and Ivey at a nearby church after they fled on foot and arrested them. Both were charged with first-degree murder in connection with Watson’s death.
If anyone knew Matthew, the people in that neighborhood, or saw activity around Ruben Road on August 17, 2016, please share what might help the investigation.
