Ryan Apollo Morgan, 32, was shot and killed in Goldsboro, North Carolina, on July 31, 2016. He was found with gunshot wounds in the 100 block of North Center Street about 2:30 a.m., taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, and died of his injuries. Morgan had served in the United States Marine Corps, completed three tours in Iraq, and was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base as a contract specialist when he was killed.
His death was one of five recent unsolved murders in Goldsboro at the time, prompting a community-funded $5,000 reward for information. The Goldsboro Police Department and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations continued the inquiry, and on January 13, 2017, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 36-year-old Bobby Mandrell Williams in connection with the killing; Williams was already in custody on unrelated charges and was charged with murder and held without bond pending his first court appearance.
Morgan’s death came amid a reported uptick in violent crime in the city; the police rolled out a new gang initiative and outreach programs in response. Did anyone in Goldsboro have information about Morgan’s movements that night or know more about connections that could help investigators?
