Anthony Eugene Harper, a 51-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on July 2, 2016, inside a residence in the 1200 block of Wilson Lee Boulevard in Statesville, North Carolina. Paramedics transported him to a Winston-Salem hospital, where he died that evening from his gunshot wound.

Police identified 36-year-old Desmond O’Neil Thompson of Iredell County as the suspect and say the shooting followed an argument between Harper and Thompson. Thompson fled on foot, and warrants were issued for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury; after Harper died, the charge was upgraded to murder. On July 4, 2016, detectives acting on a tip located Thompson at Windrush Apartments on Signal Hill Drive Extension and arrested him without incident; he was held in the Iredell County Jail with no bond.

What details about the two men or the circumstances that evening might help explain how the argument turned deadly?
