Eliza Ann McCotter, a 60-year-old homemaker from Hookerton, North Carolina, was shot and killed during a home invasion on April 30, 2016 — her 60th birthday. Two armed men forced their way into her home and the attack left her dead; she is survived by her husband, Jimmy Lee McCotter, and their children.

Investigators say the same group was tied to a second home invasion in the Hookerton area the same night. Four men — Steven Jaquan Thigpen, Ernest Mario Roach, Elsworth Agusta Massey, and Tyrone Council — were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and related offenses. Roach is reported to be the suspected triggerman. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation were involved in the inquiry.

Eliza’s family and community continue to mourn her for her kindness and the mark she left on those who knew her. If anyone has information about the home invasion or the events of April 30, 2016, please come forward.
