Bryan Barnette Bellamy Jr., a 21-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on April 21, 2016, in Clarkton, North Carolina. He lived at 1817 Elkton Road, Clarkton. His death was the result of a shooting that reportedly involved at least one round fired into the side of a home.
Two men were arrested and charged in connection with Bryan’s death. Haywood Lee Lewis, 38, of Elizabethtown was charged with first-degree murder; court filings presented Lewis as the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. Christopher Jaquan Smith, 24, of Clarkton was also charged with first-degree murder and was identified in court as the person who pulled the trigger. Prosecutors pursued a felony murder theory in both cases. Bail was denied for each defendant.
Bryan’s funeral service was held April 27, 2016, at F.W. Newton Chapel in Elizabethtown, with burial at Welches Creek Cemetery in Whiteville. Does anyone have information about Bryan, the incident, or what led up to that night?
