Anthony Lewis Capps, 26, of Burlington, North Carolina, died on February 16, 2016 after being found in the roadway on Border Street just before 2:30 AM with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation reported an altercation between Capps and 47-year-old Barry Lynn Williams of Burlington; during that altercation Williams shot Capps with a handgun.

Williams was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He surrendered to police overnight and was held at the Alamance County Jail under a $1 million secured bond. The motive for the altercation remained under investigation.
