Norman Howard Smith, 38, of Dunn, North Carolina, was shot in the face and killed at a residence on East Harnett Street on February 2, 2016. Authorities say Smith and 21-year-old Julian Evan Taylor of Erwin were acquainted, but officials did not disclose the nature of their relationship or a motive for the shooting.
Taylor was arrested about six hours after the shooting and was held in the Harnett County Detention Center without bail. He faced multiple charges, including murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property, assault by pointing a gun, injury to personal property, possession of a firearm by a felon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a firearm, and possession of stolen property.
The community in Dunn reacted to the shock of the killing and the arrest that followed. Does anyone have information about Smith, his movements that day, or his connections in Dunn that could shed light on what happened?
